What the app adds
A work app behaves differently to a tab.
The desktop app is Naumu in its own window, signed in through your normal browser and then left alone. It stays running when you close the window, and only an explicit quit actually quits it - the way anything you are meant to be reachable in should.
That is what makes the notifications real. A browser tab has to be open to tell you anything, and a backgrounded one is a coin flip. The app keeps its own connection to Naumu, so a mention arrives as a native system notification and the unread count on your dock or taskbar is correct the moment you glance at it.
Links behave too. A Naumu link opens in the app instead of bouncing you through a browser tab, and you can have it start when your machine does.

Stays out of the way
Closing the window does not quit it. On Windows and Linux it keeps a tray icon; on macOS it lives in the dock. Launching at login is a toggle, not a fight with your startup items.

Sign-in goes through your normal browser rather than a stripped-down embedded window, so the session and the password manager you already have just work.
