Get the app

1. Open naumu.ai/download. The page picks the build for your computer and the download starts automatically. If it doesn't, select download now.
2. Install and open Naumu.
3. Sign in with the same account you use in the browser.

On a phone, or a computer the page can't identify, nothing downloads. You get a list of platforms to choose from instead.

It stays running in the background

Closing the window hides Naumu. It does not quit, so notifications still reach you.

• To bring the window back, choose Open Naumu from the menu-bar icon, or click the Naumu icon in the Dock on a Mac.
• To quit for real, choose Quit Naumu from the menu-bar icon, or press Cmd+Q on a Mac.

On Mac and Windows, a new install also opens Naumu when you log in to your computer. Turn that off with Open Naumu at login under Settings → Notifications.

Notifications and the unread badge

The desktop app shows notifications through your operating system, even when its window is closed. Click one to open that conversation.

• Desktop notifications under Settings → Notifications turns them on or off. They start on.
• On a Mac, the Dock icon shows a badge with the number of spaces that have unread activity. On Windows, the taskbar icon shows a red dot.

The menu-bar icon

Naumu adds a small icon to the menu bar on a Mac, or to the system tray on Windows and Linux. Its menu has:

• Start meeting note - pick a space and start transcribing a meeting (Mac and Windows). While one is recording, Stop transcribing appears with the elapsed time. See Meeting notes.
• Open Naumu - show the main window.
• Settings - open your notification and meeting settings.
• Quit Naumu - close the app completely.

Open Naumu links in the app

Once you have signed in to the desktop app, space links you open in your browser hand off to the app. To change that, set Open links in desktop app under Settings → Notifications. The setting shows when you use Naumu in a browser, and applies to that browser.

• Always - space links opened from outside naumu.ai open in the app.
• Only from notifications - only links from Naumu emails and notifications open in the app.
• Never - links stay in the browser, and a card offers Open in app instead.

Links you click on naumu.ai itself always stay in the browser, and links to other websites open in your browser, not inside the app. Account settings has the details.

Updates

The app checks for new versions by itself and downloads them in the background. When one is ready, a New version available pill appears at the bottom of the window. Select Restart now to install it, or dismiss the pill and carry on.

The pill waits while a huddle is open in its own call window, so an update never drops your call.

Menus and shortcuts

The desktop app has its own menu bar. On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl wherever a shortcut says Cmd.

• History - Back (Cmd+[) and Forward (Cmd+]) move through the screens you visited, like a browser.
• Commands - your keyboard shortcuts as menu items, including Cmd+1 to Cmd+9 for switching spaces.
• Help - Naumu Docs, Keyboard Shortcuts, and Release Notes.

Two shortcuts work only in the desktop app, because browsers keep them for themselves: Cmd+N starts a new chat, and Cmd+F opens the command palette.

What needs the desktop app

These features need the desktop app. The rest of Naumu works the same in a browser.

• Meeting capture - on Mac and Windows, record a call's audio together with your microphone. On a Mac, a small pill also offers a meeting note when a call app starts using your mic. See Meeting notes.
